Field-trip to Dashur

Wanted to post a few pictures from our last Egyptological field-trip. This is what the department does with the students just in case we have any spare time: loads us onto a bus and drives us to the middle of the desert where we see wonderful, wonderful things and congratulate each other for choosing such an exciting field of study and ending up here together.
Dashur is a gorgeous desert site just beyond the irrigated boundary of a small town southwest of Cairo. It is the site of the first true pyramid of Egypt (the Red Pyramid of Sneferu) as well as the first attempt at a true pyramid (the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu). The kings of the 12th Dynasty also built pyramid complexes here, centuries later.
